Cleland Rock Overlook

The view from Cleland Rock looks down the Slippery Rock Gorge from the former divide between Wurtemburg Run and McConnells Run. Prior to the erosion of the gorge through the divide, Wurtemburg Run flowed along this course from the divide, but at a level much closer to the top of the gorge walls.

The view here is of the deepest part of the 12-mile long gorge. It is deepest here because it is the location of the former divide between the two streams. The stream is over 400 feet below this overlook.

Cleland Rock is a piece of Kittanning Sandstone, the same unit that is exposed at the old coal mine highwall at Site 7.
